Most Photoshop users know how to create guides by clicking on the ruler and dragging into your document window. It's also commonly known that you can make guides by going to View>New Guide and then typing you desired dimensions into the popup window. But did you know that you can also type percentages into that field to easily create guides exactly where you want them? With a photoshop file open, go up to View in the menu bar and click on New Guide.

This will bring up a dialog box. Decide if you want a vertical or horizontal guide, this trick works with either. Type in a percentage and hit enter.

I selected horizontal and typed in 50% to make a horizontal guide halfway down the height of my document.

I often like to work with vertical and horizontal center guides and this is a quick and accurate way to create them. Another great way to use this trick is to divide your layout into thirds to help create a balanced composition. I find this tip is particularly useful when working on files that are at odd sizes where it would take more than just some quick mental math to figure out exactly where to place your guides.
